Green Thumb Like Mom
We had six giant trees go down in that big storm in August of 2020. It took until fall of 2021 to get them all cut up and stacked. The next storm took down a giant pine tree, and the next an old box elder tree. All massive old trees. Getting them out tore up the lawn and ruined the natural beauty of an established, beautiful ivy covered yard. Now I have a blank white fence where before I had a big screen of massive trees along the edge. I’ve been trying to get bricks to edge it, and tame it a little.
So now my goal is to reestablish the lawns, and put in new flower beds and brick edgings to clean up the look of a wild mess. Hopefully it’s doable with the help of a few grandkids.
I’m embarrassed to show the pictures of my back yard where I will be focusing my efforts. But I guess it’s the cost of entry.
I found an iron gazebo on KSL and put that in the corner and figured out how to dry pour and put a floor in it myself.
Before
Our yard it two acres. The majority of the work is done by Grandpa (Papa) Jerry and his helpers. We only entered before pics of the back yard because that is where the transformation was needed. Grandma Carolee just plants the flowers. We found a pretty gazebo and added it to the back yard a year ago. This year we made the floor with blocks, and then dry poured cement into it, and added benches. Grandma Carolee planted roses and petunias around it. Frederick (age 4) planted a bed of zinnias but they haven’t bloomed yet. We did a lot of clean up and burned the trimmings. Papa and his helpers Got the back patio cleaned up. I forgot to include the grape harbor in the before pics, but Jerry Sr and his helpers planted new grapes on it this year in June. Our son built the grape harbor in 2023. Everything is flood irrigated. We want to be good neighbors and keep everything clean and looking nice. We didn’t get everything done along the South fence like we hoped before the end of the contest, but Papa and his helpers will finish it by the end of the summer.
